A saddle pad or numnah sits between the saddle and the horse's back, protecting the saddle from sweat and helping to keep the horse comfortable. Choosing the right shape and a good fit helps prevent rubbing and pressure.
Pads come in dressage, general-purpose and jump cuts to match the shape of your saddle, and in a range of colours to finish your turnout.

Match the shape to your saddle
A dressage pad is cut long and straight for a dressage saddle; a jump or GP pad follows the more forward flap of a jumping saddle. Using the right cut keeps the pad neat and prevents it interfering with the saddle.
Comfort and airflow
A raised spine channel keeps pressure off the spine and improves airflow, helping to prevent heat and rubbing. A soft, breathable outer is comfortable and easy to keep clean.
A secure fit
Girth and billet straps hold the pad in place so it does not slip back under the saddle. Pull the pad well up into the gullet before girthing to avoid pressure on the withers.
Saddle Pads & Numnahs: your questions answered
The terms are often used interchangeably. Traditionally a numnah is shaped to follow the outline of the saddle, while a saddle pad is a squarer cloth, but both do the same job of protecting the horse and saddle.
Brush off hair first, then machine wash at a low temperature without fabric softener. Air dry rather than tumble drying to protect the shape and any padding.
