A body protector adds an important layer of protection for the torso, particularly for jumping, cross-country and young or less experienced riders. Like a helmet, it only does its job if it is certified to a current standard and fitted correctly.
Fit is critical: a body protector must be close-fitting without restricting your breathing or movement, and the correct length is essential. We strongly recommend having one professionally fitted.

Levels of protection
Body protectors are graded by level of protection. In the UK, BETA 2018 Level 1, 2 and 3 are widely used, with Level 3 recommended for general riding and most competition. Some disciplines specify a particular level, so check the requirements for your activity.
Getting the fit right
A body protector should fit closely around the torso with the correct length at the front and back, leaving a small gap above the saddle when mounted. A trained fitter will check coverage and adjust the protector to your shape.
Care and replacement
Air a body protector after use and store it flat or hanging, away from heat. Replace it if it suffers a significant impact, no longer fits closely, or has reached the manufacturer's recommended lifespan.
